Welcome!

General Assembly
You Are Invited to attend the 220th General Assembly (GA) of the Presbyterian Church USA, as an observer or volunteer, anytime between June 30-July 7, 2012 in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.
The Presbytery of Lake Erie is serving as a co-sponsor of the GA meeting. The last time GA met in Pittsburgh was in 1958. Since it doesn’t come around here often, seize your opportunity. This will be an incredible chance to worship with Presbyterians from across the country, learn about the mission and outreach of the PCUSA, gather resources and learn about the inner workings of the denomination. Commissioners (ministers and elders elected to represent their presbyteries) will be gathering to engage in the work of the church. See how they strive to live into God's call for the PCUSA and the world. Join the FPC Youth in volunteering or simply come and observe. You’ll discover why your preacher describes herself as a GA Junkie. The Rev. Ellie Johns-Kelley will be serving the church as one of four advisors to the Young Adult Advisory Delegates (YAADs).
Here are a few ways you can participate:

1. The TWINGS group (ie. the six Presbyterian churches in Warren County) will be sponsoring a bus trip for Saturday, June 30. This will provide folks an opportunity to participate in:
opening worship this will be a significant experience explore the exhibit hall full of tons of information, freebies, a Serrve shop with fair traded goods and Cokesbury bookstore meet the candidates for moderator and see how GA runs

The cost will be approximately $24 for the bus and another $30 to get into the GA meeting and exhibit hall. If individuals register to serve as volunteers with the Committee on Local Arrangements (COLA) , they will get a free pass good for the week.

2. VOLUNTEER ~ There are many opportunities to volunteer at GA. Approximately 2,000 volunteer positions are to be filled so this is a group effort.

If you and/or a few friends would like to be involved in this mission here is the system for signing up:

1. Go to www.COLA2012.org and click on ‘Volunteer’ - follow the links to register. After you register, you will receive an e-mail confirmation. Log on to the website and browse the ‘volunteer’ categories and opportunities that interest you or are possible for you.

2. When you do this, click on ‘read more’ – this will allow you to select a day and time to volunteer. You will see where the openings are and which places are filled.

3. Check the volunteer lists periodically, because more tasks will be added as planning continues, and other opportunities will be filled.

Volunteers will receive a pass that allows one to attend General Assembly functions for the entire week. (Otherwise, observer passes for the week cost $30)

There will be volunteer training orientation sessions in May and June. You can also learn about your role on-site when you arrive to help.

As Presbyterians we are truly a connectional church. Discover what this is all about and see the incredible work completed by local folks like you and me and the impact such work makes on our regions, the nation and the world.

Junior High Youth Group
Junior High Youth, grades 6-8, will meet Wednesday, May 23 from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. If you know of a young person whom would like to participate, contact the church office for registrations forms.
Vespers at the Rouse
Rouse Warren County Home
First Presbyterian Church will be leading vespers the second Sunday of each month at the Rouse Home. We will need three to four volunteers each month to work with Rev. Johns on this project.

Each Sunday, two religious services are held at the Rouse Home, one at 9:45 A.M. (a larger worship service) and one at 4:00 P.M. (an informal, smaller vespers service). The vespers are held by various churches and are about a half hour in length. They usually include singing and a meditation, but can be a choir, a skit, a youth group sharing, etc. It is best to have three or four individuals involved so that they can roam the halls and wheel people down and back from the recreation room.

A number of our church members live at the Rouse Estate and are thrilled that we are taking this on.
